Donald Lee Olsen peacefully passed away at his home Saturday August 1st of 2026 at the age of 77. A celebration of life service will be held in his honor on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Perry VFW Post from 1-4 pm. Arrangements are being handled by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Perry Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica Olsen; his parents, Bob and Jean Olsen; brother-in-law, Hurley Grinnell; sister and brother law, Ruth and Butch Alward. After high school, Don enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Oriskey during the Vietnam war. Following the war, he worked and retired from General Motors. Don leaves behind his son, Eric (Jessica) Olsen; his chosen daughter, Cherish (Daniel) Waller; sister, Sandy Grinnell; relatives, Victoria Vavricka, Val (Roger) Fairfield, Chris Vavricka, Frank (Karen) Vavricka, Charles Vavricka, as well as several nieces and nephews. And last but not least, many lifelong friends who he considered and loved like family. Don lived his life to the fullest and you’d be hard pressed to find a person who he would meet that he didn’t befriend and as such he will be missed by all who met him. whether it be at the lake, in his hometown or on one of his many adventures.
