COON, Allan Bert – of Burton, MI, age 82, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Private interment in Fremont Cemetery, Bancroft, MI 48414. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Christian Service or to the Flint Eastside Mission, in Allan’s memory.
Allan was born in Flint, MI on September 20, 1939, son of the late Norman L. and Mildred (Pelch) Coon, Sr. He married Korine Buszek on April 14, 1979 in Flint, MI. Allan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1959. He retired from General Motors in 1988 after 30 years of service. Allan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a passionate fisherman who fished all the Great Lakes. His proudest moment as a fisherman was catching a 900-pound, 15 foot long Black Marlin off the coast of Australia in the Great Barrier Reef. Allan was an avid traveler, having traveled to all 50 U.S. states and 6 out of 7 continents. He was also an enthusiastic cryptic crossword solver, a voracious reader and an ardent World War II aficionado.
Allan is survived by his wife of 42 years, Korine Coon; 2 sons, Mark Coon and Michael Coon; 2 step-daughters, Laura LaBudde and Amanda LaBudde; 5 grandchildren, Mark Coon II, Jonathan Coon, David Coon, Kory Coon and Savanna Coon; 2 great-grandchildren, Mikalyn Coon and Matthew Coon; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman L. and Mildred Coon, Sr.; brother, Norman L. Coon, Jr and sister, Donna Marie Shorkey.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of Ascension Genesys Hospital 4 South ICU for their compassionate and professional care of Allan.
