FADER, Shirley Ann (Sarver) – of Burton, MI, age 88, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 9, 2026. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Friday, August 14, 2026 at Calvert Park Community Church of God, 2341 North Genesee Road, Burton, MI 48509; Pastor Alex Young officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Inurnment in Dover Township Cemetery (also known as Bristol Cemetery) on a later date. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-1 PM Friday, August 14, 2026 at Calvert Park Community Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care or Calvert Park Community Church of God, in Shirley’s memory.
Shirley was born March 14, 1938, at the Wilder Homestead in Lake County, MI, daughter of the late Carlton and Lois (Wilder) Sarver. She graduated from Luther Agricultural School in 1956 and continued her education at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Flint, MI, where she earned her diploma in nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1959. Shirley dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her nursing career. She was employed at St. Joseph Hospital (Genesys), Hurley Medical Center, and McLaren Regional Medical Center. She retired from Genesys in 1994 and from McLaren in 2001, but her dedication to nursing was so strong that she was asked to return to work, where she continued until January 29, 2016. In 2009, McLaren honored Shirley for an extraordinary 50 years of service in nursing—a fitting recognition of a woman whose calling was to care for others. Shirley was a woman with an inquisitive mind and an adventurous spirit, always finding joy in learning, creating, and discovering the beauty around her. She had a deep love for nature and could often be found feeding the birds, raccoons, and other little critters that visited her home. She enjoyed collecting fossils and rocks and took great pride in her flower gardens. Her passion for gardening led her to become a Master Gardener through Michigan State University in 2007. An avid reader, Shirley treasured her home library of more than 2000 books. She was a member of the Mid-Michigan Pond Association and volunteered at Applewood Estate. She also had a beautiful gift for expressing herself through poetry and found great joy in writing. Shirley was an accomplished cook and baker who loved creating her own recipes and sharing them with others. She even had cookbooks printed for family and friends, ensuring that her favorite recipes—and the memories created around them—would live on for generations. Shirley was also a woman of remarkable independence and determination. Over the years, she pursued several business ventures, including Mary Kay Cosmetics, Amway, Avanti Travel, and Narre Hosiery. From 2000 to 2005, she shared her time and talents with the staff and families of Allen Funeral Home in Davison, MI. Her animals held a very special place in her heart. Shirley adored her miniature schnauzers and her beloved cats, including her special companion, “Kitty,” who brought her great comfort and companionship. Above all, Shirley will be remembered as a caring and compassionate woman who lived a full and purposeful life. She followed her many interests with enthusiasm, never stopped learning, and found beauty in the simplest things—from a garden in bloom and a bird at the feeder to a good book, a treasured recipe, or the companionship of an animal. Her life touched countless people through her years of nursing, her friendships, her generosity, and the many gifts she shared with those around her.
Shirley is survived by her son, Michael (Jennifer) Fader; 3 granddaughters, Traci (Tom) Robinson, Brittany (Jchon) Bahl II and Courtney (Taylor) Larkin; step-grandson, Cameron (Molly) Judd; 5 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan, Jadyn, Jacob and London; 6 step-grandchildren; great-great-granddaughter, Lenora; many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton Sarver and Lois Corson; grandparents, Rev. William and Martha Wilder; 5 siblings, Allen Sarver, Carlton “Fuzzy” Sarver, Nancy “Carla” Neighbor, Lois Engle and Delbert Corson.

Shirley’s legacy will live on in the lives she cared for, the knowledge she shared, the gardens she nurtured, the words she wrote, and the many hearts she touched throughout her remarkable life.
