Mooney (Walters), Kathleen Mary, loving mother and grandmother passed away May 4, 2026, with her family by her side. Kathleen was born in Flint, MI on January 30, 1946, daughter of Muril and Freida (Bernardi) Mooney. She attended Civic Park Elementary, Emerson Junior High School and later Grand Blanc High School. Once her children were grown, she returned to school and earned her Associates Degree at Mott Community College.
She loved music and dance and also developed a love for reading and books which stayed with her through her adult life. She spent many summers reading books on the beach at Higgins Lake with her young children.
She is survived by her children Mark Walters Jr., Lorelei (Randy) Smith, Amanda (Anthony) Bastuk, and Rachel (Jered) Townsend, grandchildren Colin, Ian, Garrett, Reese, Riley, and brother Scott Mooney.
Kathleen was preceded in death by many of her family members and her beloved cat Blue Boy. The family would like to give special thanks to the many staff at McLaren Flint that cared for her during her final days, the staff at Fresenius West Flint, and MTA Rides to Wellness for kindness and care through the past several years.
Per Kathleen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Flint, MI.
