VAN FLEET, Frederick L. – Of Flint, age 72, died Sunday, December 6, 2020 at McLaren-Flint.
A private funeral service will be held with Pastor Jason Terrian officiating. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Swartz funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
Fred was born in Kinross, Michigan on December 10, 1947, the son of the late Harold and Irene (Vock) Van Fleet. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Fred married Norma Melvin on September 16, 1967 in Beecher. Mr. Van Fleet was employed by GM for 49 years on the production line. He loved traveling to the Mackinaw Bridge and the UP to see all of the waterfalls. Fred was a simple man that enjoyed going out for breakfast and eating burnt cookies. He was also an avid coffee drinker. Above all, he loved his family.
Surviving are 4 children, Heather (Bradley) Scott of Flint Township, Christy (Joseph) Christopher of Flint Township, Freddie of MI and Chassidy Van Fleet of Flint Township;
6 grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Kelsey, Miguel, Selena and Chassidy;
great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jeremy;
sister, Ilene Smeckens of Round O, S.C.;
nephews, Don and Thomas Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma and parents, Harold and Irene Van Fleet.
