CHANEY, Gareth V. "Gary" - age 87 of Flint , passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones at his home in Clarkston. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek with a burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery to follow (a live-stream of the funeral service may be viewed at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Visitation will be held Tuesday April 13, 2021 at 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Gareth was born in North Dakota on February 28, 1934 to Paul and Viola Chaney. He had two sisters, Pauline and Jeanette, and a younger brother, Glenn. The family moved to Michigan to find work when the Chaney children were young. Gareth spent most of his life in Michigan where he made his home. He married and had four children, Patrick, Laura, Debbie, and Marie. In his early years, he served in the U.S. Army. Gareth, then, worked at a factory where he built cars for General Motors/AC Spark Plug where he retired after many years of service. After retirement, he began to travel, and was very fortunate to have toured the world. Gareth enjoyed sharing memories of his life growing up and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking. Gareth was very devoted to his family and friends. Gareth was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Viola Chaney; sisters, Pauline Turpine and Jeanette Sermeno; and granddaughter, Tabitha Chaney. The ones who are left to cherish his memory are his four children, Patrick Chaney, Laura Justice, Debbie Hall, and Marie Chaney; his brother that he loved dearly, Glenn Chaney; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family of Gareth Chaney would like to thank you very much for the cards, flowers, the many phone calls, and the shared memories and stories. A heartfelt appreciation for the kind expressions of sympathy shown following Gareth's sad passing. Your support during this difficult time was very much appreciated and of great comfort to all of Gareth's family.
