BRENNER, EDWARD “ED” - passed away peacefully, leaving behind a proud legacy of military service, dedicated work, and profound love for his family.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation will be held from 12pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
Burial held at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:30am.
Born in San Diego, California, Ed lived a vibrant and full life rooted in strong values, lasting friendships, and cherished memories.
A decorated veteran, Ed served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. During his nearly eight years of military service, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in combat. Following his honorable service, Ed went on to own and operate Nash Trenching Co. for 40 years, earning deep respect across his community for his work ethic and integrity.
Fondly known as "Poppy," Ed embraced life with enthusiasm. He completed two Detroit Marathons and spent 36 warm winters in Florida. Whether fishing, riding his trike motorcycle, or relaxing at his lakefront "Margaritaville Bar," Ed lived every day to the fullest. Above all, he cherished his wife, Sue, who was steadfastly by his side following their marriage in Tawas, Michigan on May 19, 1984.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sue Brenner; son Steve Powell (Nikki); daughters Michell Bettega (Joe), Leslie Stratton (Dale), Theresa Indreica (Jim), and Mona LaMay (Bruce); sisters Peggy, Kaye, Debbie, and Cindy; as well as 10 grandchildren (Krysta, Savannah, Zach, Ashley, Frankie, Aly, Jimmy, Katie, Kyle, Alanna) and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers.
