KONESNY, Ken – 71, longtime Genesee County area educator and coach, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at his cabin in Rose City, MI. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 PM Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton, Davison. Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkkowski celebrant. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison and 12-1 PM Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, P. O. Box 29543, San Francisco, CA 94129, www.myotonic.org.
Ken was born in Flint, MI, October 27, 1942, son of the late Joseph and Carrie (Grabiec) Konesny. He graduated from St. Mary’s – Mt. Morris in 1960. Ken graduated Aquinas College in 1965, where he was a varsity basketball player, 1961-1965. He later received his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University while working as a graduate assistant coach for John Bennington. Mr. Konesny was employed at the Mt. Morris Schools as a High School Teacher, Junior High Counselor and Principal at Central Elementary. He was head basketball coach of the Mt. Morris men’s basketball team from 1969-1973 where he received numerous accolades for his successful seasons with the Panthers. Ken also coached for Flint Holy Rosary and the Kearsley Hornets. Ken married Sandra on May 19, 2000. He belonged to the Michigan State Alumni Association and spent many Saturdays tailgating and cooking for friends in East Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed spending summers up north taking his grandchildren on boat rides, fishing on his pond and cooking for friends and family.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra; two children, Karen and Tony Vance, Joseph Konesny and Catherine Zdunic; six grandchildren, Madison, Samantha, Caroline, Natalie, Gabriel and Izabell; sister, Rita Konesny; sister-in-law, Pat Konesny. He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Konesny and his brother, Joseph.
