SHAFT, Tracy - Of Flint, age 66, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Hurley Medical Center.
Tracy was born to Donald and Claire Shaft on May 20, 1959, in Flint, Mich.
She loved spending time at the beach, working in the garden, and enjoying game nights with family. She was a voracious reader, fan of Bob Seger, and dedicated aunt. Her nieces will always treasure the memories of making gingerbread houses and watching Christmas movies with Tracy every year.
An educator for more than 30 years, she helped hundreds of children find a love for learning. She spent most of her career at St. John Vianney Catholic School, organizing an annual Oregon Trail lesson that became legendary at the school. For her, it was a story of courage, perseverance, faith, and hope in the face of uncertainty and served as a poignant reminder to trust God when life feels uncertain or overwhelming.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Claire. Surviving are her sister, Kathy (Paul) Bonner; nieces Elizabeth (Cameron) Carr and Lauren Bonner; great-niece Lillian Claire; and many beloved cousins. She will also be deeply missed by several close friends, whom the family would like to thank for their dedication to Tracy.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30am Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, Father Thomas Firestone officiating.
Memorial visitation 9:30am Saturday at church until the time of the Mass.
