Lawrence Nelson Girard Jr. of Clio, MI passed peacefully on Friday November 5, 2021 at home. God broke the mold when Larry was born to the late Lawrence and Donna (Tufford) Girard on December 15, 1953 in Flint, MI. Being born 1 of 10 children shaped Larry’s formative years and resulted in a love of big celebrations filled with late night card games and memories that lasted a lifetime. Being the youngest was a not an easy task but he was up for the challenge and was known to keep the whole group practicing their dance moves to various records they had at home. Larry started his career in the United States Army in 1975 as a Pershing Missile Crewman and saw the world. Once back home Larry met and married his wife the late Sherry Callahan. He opened a local baseball card shop. Later in life he went on to work for AC and retired years later. Growing up in Larry’s household was never boring. His children were well loved and kept busy with their dad as coach, fishing buddy and backyard basketball extraordinaire. He was a remarkable grandpa to his 10 grandchildren as well. Larry is survived by his children Joshua(Stephanie) Girard, Amber (Eric) Hyde, Gregory (Brittany) Girard and bonus son Joshua Maupin and 10 Grandchildren. Several brothers and sisters including Harold Ford, James Ford, Steven Ford, Kathy Cromwell, Jim Gonsler, Larry Girard, Lorene Girard and Violet Girard. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Donna Girard, wife Sherry Girard and brother Kenneth Ford and sister Rita Girard. The family is forever in debt to significant other Kathy Brooks for all her help and unwavering love for the last several years.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday November 14, 2021 at 1pm at the Clio Eagles, where Larry was a trustee 13267 N. Saginaw Rd. Clio, MI 48420. A light dinner will be served. Memorial contributions in honor of Larry may be directed to the Clio Eagles Club. Larry will be laid to rest with military honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a later determined date.
