Charles Henry Sheridan was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ as the sun rose on September 24, 2021, the day after his 76th wedding anniversary. He lovingly bid farewell to his treasured wife, Marjorie Hamblin Sheridan, his daughters, Cynthia (Robert) O’Connor and Patricia McCray, his three wonderful grandchildren, Jeffrey McCray (Kelley), Laura Boillot (Paul), and Michael O’Connor, and his great grandchildren, Reece Charles McCray and Baby Boillot, due in December.
Born June 28, 1921 in McRae, Arkansas to Loren Sheridan and Florence (Swank)Sheridan, he was joined by two sisters, Mary Margaret Bean (Joseph) and Alice Deputy (Neal).
After graduation from Greencastle High School and DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, Charlie served in four campaigns in the Pacific as a Lieutenant in the Navy. While at DePauw, he met Marjorie Hamblin and they were married on September 23, 1945.
They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1948 when he began a thirty six year career at General Motors Institute (now Kettering), helping to develop and extend the Alumni program in the U.S. and abroad as the Alumni Director for GMI. He and Marge traveled the world after retirement, often visiting the many alumni friends made in foreign countries.
Charlie found great joy in his work in the community, lending his speaking and singing voice to many organizations, churches and events in the Flint area. He served his church, First Presbyterian Flint for almost seventy years, was an avid member of the Flint Kiwanis Club and Lieutenant Governor for Michigan Kiwanis International, joined the Grand Blanc Elks Club and Grand Blanc Retired Men’s group. He volunteered well into his 90’s with the Bobby Crim, Special Olympics, coaching young people in public speaking and performing in lead roles for Flint Community Players up until his final role at age 80 in 'Anatomy of a Murder.'
The family would like to express deep thanks to all the wonderful friends, neighbors and caregivers who helped Charlie reach his 100th birthday, particularly Rob and Kathy Cojeen, Fred and Peggy Nolde, Jean Craig Flynn, David Carr, Leanne Toman, the staff from Right At Home and McLaren Hospice.
