POLKINGHORNE, Stephen Robert II - Age 83, of Apollo Beach, FL, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via Stephen's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Reverend Mark Shutes officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Stephen Robert Polkinghorne memorial fund, c/o Sonya Bietila.
Stephen was born January 10, 1943 in Detroit, the son of Stephen and Edith (Livingston) Polkinghorne. He was a 1961 graduate of Flint Northern High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Beverly Jean McDowell December 28, 1979 and she preceded him in death September 22, 2025. He had resided in Apollo Beach, FL for the past 8 years coming from Willow Springs, NC. Stephen retired from GM Buick City as a crane operator. He enjoyed gardening, building, sunbathing, dancing, scuba diving and boating.
Surviving are: his children, Stephen Robert (Melissa) Polkinghorne III of Garner, NC, Michelle (Lee) Crouch of Mechanicsville, MD, Robin (Mark) Shutes of Baytown, TX and Sonya (Jay) Bietila of Apollo Beach, FL; stepsons, Daniel (Rhonda) Polkinghorne of Lake Orion and Douglas Polkinghorne of Clio; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Larry Polkinghorne and Danny Polkinghorne both of Clio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Scott and Ryan Polkinghorne. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
