HYNES, MARY ELLEN – Of Goodrich, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Anchored Heart Assisted Living.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11am Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Road, Grand Blanc, Father David Howell officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A vigil service will be held at 7:30pm on Monday evening at the funeral home. There will also be visitation from 10am Tuesday until Mass at the church.
Burial will take place at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church or St. Luke N.E.W Life Center.
Mary Ellen was born in Wichita, Kansas on June 21, 1943. She was the third of eight children, the daughter of the late John and Alma (Leonard) Hynes.
Mary Ellen was a proud graduate of St. Michael Catholic School in Flint, class of 1961 where she served as a Varsity cheerleader.
Mary Ellen married Gerald Wizner on August 14, 1965.
She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and volunteered for many years at St Luke N.E.W Life Center.
Mary Ellen became a Registered Nurse in December of 1964 and also received a BS from Central Michigan University and a MA and MBA from Eastern Michigan University. She served in various capacities in the healthcare industry, retiring from the state of Michigan after many years of service.
She is survived by her brothers, Jim L. and wife Laurie Hynes, Richard A. and wife Lucy Hynes; sisters Martha A. and husband Dan Daunt and Susan T. and husband Joe Guyski; sisters-in-law Patty Hynes and Linda Hynes; longtime friend, Marie Knight; many loving nieces, nephews and dear neighbors and friends; and beloved dog Lady.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Wizner, brothers, John, Paul and Charles Hynes.
Mary Ellen's family will be forever grateful for the love, care and compassion she received from the administration and care team at Anchored Heart Senior Living in Goodrich and Compassus Home Health. We were truly blessed.
