Amy MacDonald Simon

Born: 12/3/1953
Died: 8/3/2026
Age: 72
Community: Grand Blanc , MI

Amy MacDonald Simon, 72, passed away on August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a hard-fought, six-month battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Amy grew up on Woodlawn Park Drive as one of nine children in the MacDonald family, with whom she remained deeply connected throughout her life.

Amy graduated from Powers Catholic High School before attending St. Mary’s College where she was a cheerleader for the University of Notre Dame. She owned the Gingerbread House Preschool and built
relationships that lasted long after the preschool years, a reflection of the genuine care she gave not only to the children, but also to the families who walked through her doors.

Taking care of others wasn’t just something Amy did. It was who she was. Her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and perfectly timed sarcasm could brighten even the hardest days.

Above all else, Amy was a devoted mother. Her daughters were the center of her world, and she loved them fiercely and unconditionally.

Amy is survived by her daughters Marcie, Abby (Mike Sorscher), and Betsy (Greg Sadler). She is also survived by her siblings Chrissie Hudgens, Pat McGonigle (Michael), Brian MacDonald (Ginny), and Mary Luxem; her in-laws, Bruce Vick, Jackie MacDonald, and Ami MacDonald; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert J. and Madeline A. MacDonald; her siblings Marcia Vick, Duncan MacDonald, Stephen MacDonald, and Timothy MacDonald; and her brothers-in-law James Luxem and Stephen Hudgens.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc, Michigan. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to support the lifelong care and well-being of Amy’s beloved daughter, Marcie. Caring for Marcie was her greatest privilege, and her deepest wish was to know Marcie would always be surrounded by love and care.

A very special thank you to the exceptional team of pulmonologists at Chest and Sleep Medicine, and to the many wonderful doctors and nurses at Karmanos Cancer Institute and McLaren Flint Hospital.

We love you to the moon, Mom
