Denice Gale Oben

Born: 1/20/1952
Died: 8/8/2026
Age: 74
Community: Flushing, MI

Our beloved mother, Nona, sister, and aunt, Denice Gale (Cherveny) Oben, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in the morning hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026 at  Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Age 74 years. Denice was born on January 20, 1952 in Flint, Michigan to the late Michael and Mary Cherveny. She was raised in the beliefs of the Catholic Faith; attending St. Luke’s in Flint from Kindergarten through 8th grade and then graduating from St. Michael’s Catholic High School in 1970. As a child, some of her favorite memories were made going to Higgins Lake with her family; many of these memories were echoed, and many new ones made, spending time in Ludington on Lake Michigan at her daughter’s house. Her love of water and God’s greatest creations stuck with her throughout her whole life. Shortly after high school, Denice would meet the absolute love of her life, Thomas Oben. On September 23, 1972, inside of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Denice married her true love, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1998. Denice and Thomas had been apart for many years, waiting for the joyful day of August 8, 2026, to be happily reunited once again. Throughout her life she worked as an Office Manager and Medical Biller; spending time working at  F.O.H., for Dr. Jue, and Dr. Shaheen. Denice had been a devout member of Trinity Assembly of God for nearly 4 decades; she was very involved in the card ministry program, grief share, and founded the “circle of friends/widows group.” One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards and going to trivia nights; she hosted many card nights over the years. With her numerous joys in life, nothing brought Denice more happiness than the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She never missed any of their events and was very involved in their lives. Denice will be missed dearly by all and she will be cherished forever.

Left to cherish her memories are her three children, Jennifer (David) Shamel of Ludington, MI, Jeffrey (Isabelle) Oben of The Woodlands, TX, and Jessica “Hugga” (Brett) Daniel of Fowlerville, MI; grandchildren, Abigail (Alex) Arnst, Madelyn (Kenny) Ambrose, Gwendelyn (Fiancée, Nate Yates) Shamel, Grace Shamel, Carson Daniel, Alyssa Daniel, and Liam Axel Oben; great-granddaughter, Kendall Arnst; brother, Michael (Sue) Cherveny; sister-in-law, Kathy (Dale) Burton; and brother-in-law, Joe Forcier; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Denice is happily reunited with her husband, Thomas Oben; parents, Michael and Mary Cherveny; and sister, Patricia Forcier.
