Edna McArthur LaFountain, 91, of Lapeer / Columbiaville died Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was born August 2, 1922 in Marsden, England and emigrated to the U.S. with her parents John and Bertha (Dawson) Phillips in 1926. She, her parents, sister Gwen and brother Harry became U.S. citizens and resided in Columbiaville.
Edna graduated from Columbiaville High School. She married Donald McArthur in 1939. They raised two sons Larry and Allan. She worked for Michigan Bell as a switchboard operator in Columbiaville for many years eventually changing jobs to work for Buick in accounting.
Edna loved to sing and act and tell stories in an Irish fashion. She loved a good laugh and enjoyed life. She was an active choir member in the Methodist Church and a member of the Columbiaville Players. Life changed for Edna when Don died.
Edna knew of Jerry LaFountain, as their paths had crossed over the years, they started dating and she converted to Catholicism. They were married on July 30, 1983 in the Immaculate Conception Church by Father Goentges.
Edna convinced Jerry to retire and they spent 20 years happily as snowbirds in Venice, FL. They golfed, picked up sharks teeth at Venice Beach and enjoyed their community where Edna continued singing and acting at the Park Events until fate returned them to Lapeer.
Edna was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Lapeer, Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister: Gwen Iles, children: Larry (Helen) McArthur, Allan (Lillian) McArthur, step-children: Paula (Jim Sherer) Lafountain and Dennis LaFountain, several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her 1st husband: Donald McArthur, 2nd husband: Jerry LaFountain, brother: Harry, grandsons: Peter and David.

Edna's family welcomes friends & family for visiting hours of 2:00-5:00pm Sunday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The funeral mass will be 11:00am Monday, March 17, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer officiated by Father Douglas Terrien. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbiaville.
