Thomas Mitchell Shubert, 78, of Swartz Creek, passed away at home on September 15, 2026. He was a man defined by his generosity, kindness, and boundless love for those around him.
Thomas earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his Master's degree from Central Michigan University, preparing him for a career dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. For decades, he applied that education and deep commitment as a teacher at the Michigan School for the Deaf and later served as Assistant Principal and Principal at the Lapeer County Education and Technology Center. He believed deeply in empowering others and brought that same passion and commitment to everything he undertook.
Beyond the classroom, Tom was an avid goose hunter, finding joy and peace in nature's rhythms. He was a traveler at heart, eager to explore the world and share those adventures with loved ones. But above all, he will be remembered as a loving, generous soul whose warmth touched everyone who knew him.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Shubert (Miller); his sister, Jane Crossman (Charles); sisters-in-law, Kathy Miller (Bill) and Lisa Miller-Piche (Mike); and brother-in-law, Bill Miller (Sandy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Alise McAleer (Chris), Sarah McLain (Joseph), Jonathan Miller-Piche (Danielle), Jordan Miller-Piche, Nuri Miller (Liron), Claire Donati (Chris), James Crossman, Charlene Stiles (Mike), Carrie Ralston, and Elaine Stempewski (Ken). He leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews who cherished their Uncle Tom: Reid, Eve, and Jude McAleer, Jackson and Chase McLain, Hannah, Jonathan, Evan, and Sarah Miller-Piche, Elizabeth Stiles, Grace Crossman, Logan Ralston, Mia and Alma Miller, and Daniel and Mark Donati.
A memorial service and visitation will be held at Swartz Funeral Home on October 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
Thomas will be laid to rest at Seymour Lake Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the YMCA SafeHouse or the Humane Society of Genesee County. |
