Ben was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania, on January 21, 1935, the son of the late John and Mary (Horvath) Latzy. He married the love of his life, Judith “Judy” Fuhst, on August 20, 1960. Together, they shared many wonderful years until her passing on October 31, 2022. Ben was a man of strong character, integrity, and unwavering determination. He proudly served in the United States Army, where he was a member of the baseball team, and later continued his love of the game by playing for a farm team for the Cincinnati Reds. He went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career with General Motors, retiring in 1992 after 32 years of service. Faith was an important part of Ben’s life. He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as secretary and was part of the Singing Knights Choir. He also spent time calling Bingo at the Veterans Hospital in Saginaw, bringing his good nature and fellowship to others. A natural tinkerer, Ben could often be found fixing things, working on cars, or simply figuring out how to make something work. He was stoic, stubborn, and tenacious - qualities that reflected his strength and determination throughout his life. Above all, Ben loved his family fiercely and was devoted to those he held dear. He will be remembered for his strong character, generous spirit, and the lasting love he gave so freely to his family.
Ben is survived by his daughters: Cheryl (Mike) Lynch and Paulette (Mike) Reif; daughter-in-law, Emma Latzy; grandchildren: Megan (Zach) Musgraves, Tyler (Jessica) Lynch and Elizabeth (Dave) De Mand; great-grandchildren: Jayden Ferguson and Copelan Lynch; great-great-granddaughter, Rylie De Mand; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Latzy; sons, Michael and Bernie Latzy; siblings: John Latzy and Teresa Latzy.
