Eduardo Lorenzo, the son of Luisa and Luis Lorenzo, was born in Punta Brava, Havana, Cuba, April 13, 1932. He received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and worked for the Cuban Motor Corporation, a division of General Motors. In 1956 he entered the seminary where he studied for 5 years until the Communist regime forced the closing of all the Catholic churches and seminaries. He was exiled in 1961 from his country along with hundreds of seminarians, priests, and bishops. After two months in Miami, he entered St. Maur's Seminary in South Union, Kentucky where he finished Seminary and Theological Studies. In 1964, at the request of the Lansing Diocese, Eduardo Lorenzo was transferred to work with the Spanish Speaking Apostolate to assist in ministering to the growing number of Mexican American migrant farm workers in the area, including a large Catholic Hispanic population. After repeated efforts failed to return to Cuba for his ordination into the Priesthood, Eduardo Lorenzo was granted permission to be ordained on January 22, 1966, in the Diocese of Lansing and serve as the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Flint, MI. Since his arrival to the Flint area in 1966, Father Lorenzo worked diligently on ministering to the spiritual needs and concerns of the Hispanic community. His arrival to Flint was a prophetic dream for the growing Spanish speaking community who needed and wanted a larger church building. Through his perseverance, dedication and guidance, Our Lady of Guadalupe parish became the first Catholic church in the State of Michigan to be built and paid for by the Hispanic community.

In 2002 after 36 years of faithful service to the parish community, Father Lorenzo retired from his pastoral duties but actively maintained his ministry throughout, and on January 22, 2025, he celebrated and was honored for his 59th year anniversary of his Ordination and Priesthood. Father Eduardo Lorenzo is survived by two nephews and two nieces, Pedro Rafael Guzman Lorenzo (Sofia Hernandez Marmol), Maria Esther Guzman Lorenzo (Alberto Perez Lara), Maria Elena Guzman Lorenzo (Nicholas Figueredo) of Cuba, Miguel Angel of Florida, and many grandnephews and grandnieces. Father Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents Luis and Luisa Lorenzo, one sister Esther Lorenzo Guzman and her husband Pedro, and many uncles and aunts.

The parish family wishes to thank the many caregivers and helpers of Father Lorenzo, especially during his time of illness and disability; and to extend a special thanks to the Medical Team Hospice for their sincere dedication, compassion and overwhelming support. In particular, thanks to Emily Reyes, Sara Terryah, Rachael Graham, Jennifer Edward, Jessica Scepka and A-Marie Dotson.
