VIEU, Laura A. - Of Flint, age 101, died Thursday, December 12, 2013
at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 711 South Saginaw Street, Flint,
The Reverend Barbara Cavin officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Christ Episcopal Center or St. Paul Episcopal Church.
Visitation 1-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Laura will be at the church 10am Wednesday until the time of the service.
Laura was born in Cheboygan, MI the daughter of Howard and Ethel Elliott and was a resident of the Flint area since 1943. She was united in marriage with Clarence Vieu in Lansing in 1936. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and a graduate of the University of Michigan. She was a member and former president of Alpha Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of AARP, MARSP, the Flint Area Retired Teachers Association and American Association of University Women. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church and a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church. Mrs. Vieu taught in the Cheboygan County School District, Clio School District and retired from the Flint Community Schools in 1976. She also worked in the Flint Cooperative Teacher Training for 8 years.
Surviving are 3 grandchildren, Jill and husband Julius Stern of Holly, Jennifer and husband Michael Watson of Grand Blanc and Jonathan Vieu of Fenton;
great-grandchildren, Alexandra Stern, Miranda Watson, Ava Watson and Hunter Vieu; sister-in-law, Donna Elliott;
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, in 1959; daughter, Sandra Vieu, in 1963, son, Gary in 2002, her parents; 1 sister, 2 brothers, sisters-in-law, Beulah Kelley, Bernice Passino and Lydia Vieu and brother-in-law, John Vieu.
