STOCKTON, Laurel Stanley. - of Birch Run, age 91, died Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Fellowship Baptist Church - 14046 N. Saginaw Rd. in Clio. Pastor Darrel Manning officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with full Military Honors. The family will receive visitors at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Friday from 1PM until 8PM and at the church on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Laurel, may be made to The Chosen Ranch, or Effort Vision.

Laurel was born October 25, 1926 in Rock Lake, North Dakota to the late John and Margaret (Klack) Stockton they later moved to Flint, Michigan in 1930. He attended Flint Schools and graduated from Flint Technical School in 1944. Mr. Stockton is a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre for 2 years. After returning home from the service, he spent 6 years farming with his father. Laurel worked for Chevrolet in sheet metal production and was accepted into the die maker apprentice program. He graduated with the honor of being the first apprentice in the city of Flint to earn a 4.0 average. Laurel went from the die room into engineering, and retired from Chevrolet Metal Fabricating on January 1, 1985. He later worked at Premium Design and retired in 1992.

Laurel married Marilyn Wright on June 10, 1989 in Flint. Marilyn passed away February 23, 2018. In 1995 they moved to Harrisville, where he enjoyed hunting and working in his flower gardens. He also enjoyed the hours spent playing horseshoes with his sons, family, and friends. They spent many pleasant times around the fire pit in the summer evenings. While living in Harrisville, he was a very active member of Haynes Community Church. In 2013, they sold their first home in Harrisville and moved to Birch Run.

Laurel volunteered with the Tall Pine Council Troop #117, a handicapped Boy Scout Troop. He will be remembered for his patience working and teaching many of these scouts how to earn their badges, some even earned an Eagle Award. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Clio for many years. Laurel loved his Lord and the churches he attended throughout his lifetime.

Surviving are: Daughter, Laura Jean (Mark) Condon; Sons: Steven S. Stockton, and Mark A. (Cindy) Stockton; Stepson, John D. (Carlene) Wright; Stepdaughter, Mary E. (David) Bukosky; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; Brothers: Wayne (Ruth) Stockton, and Eugene (Barbara) Stockton; Many nieces and nephews. Laurel was preceded in death by his Granddaughter Allison Bukosky, Grandson Jeffery Wright, Sister, Shirley Ann Stockton-Andrews, and Brother, Lynnwood Stockton.
