Betty Virginia (Bradfield) Wilson, age 96, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021 at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes Skilled Nursing Facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care that Betty received from the facility staff and the Hospice of Michigan caregivers.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gordon Wilson, her dear parents Richard L. and Hazel Bradfield and younger brother Richard E. Bradfield. Now she is rejoicing with them in Heaven before the throne of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Betty is survived by her Bradfield second cousins, John and Debra Friedli and their family members, relatives of the Wilson family and her best friend, Kathy Cohee.

Betty was born on July 19, 1925 in Flint, Michigan. She spent childhood summers with her Bradfield and Miller grandparents at their farms in western and eastern Michigan. Betty’s family was employed by the General Motors automotive plant in Flint. Betty was an accomplished musician playing a variety of instruments including the piano and organ. She graduated from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester in Rochester, New York with a bachelor’s degree in music. For many years Betty was the organist for her church and directed their handbell choir. She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years in the Flint area public schools. Betty shared her love of music with many of her students.

Betty enjoyed several artistic pursuits such as rug weaving, knitting, and making baskets. Gordon and Betty taught basket weaving classes and participated in craft fairs. Betty liked to paint a variety of nature scenes, getting some of her ideas from the vacation trips she took with Gordon. She made many greeting cards for the Grand Rapids Home for the Veterans often using her watercolor scenes. Betty would help Gordon with his floral business by delivering the flower orders after she finished her teaching day at school. Towards the end of her life, she liked to read a variety of books and work on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed visits from her family and friends.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Rossell Funeral Home, 307 E. Main Street, Flushing, Michigan 48433 on Tuesday, December 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation at the funeral home from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gordon.
