JELINEK, John – of Davison, age 81, passed away on June 5, 2023. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison United Methodist Church.

John was born in New Buffalo, MI on the second floor of the Jelinek Dairy Company on September 8, 1941, son of the late John and Bessie (Knytch) Jelinek Sr. He married Donna Cluchey and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2017. John graduated from Michigan State University. He was a member of the Davison United Methodist Church. John retired from Davison Community Schools. He was Davison’s last Agriculture Teacher and it was his agriculture class that planted the grass on Collins Field and around the current Davison High School. John then continued teaching Biology and Science. He served on the Davison Township Board of Appeals for over 40 years, serving most of those years as chairman. John and Donna moved to Davison, starting their farm in 1968. He was active in Genesee County and Michigan Farm Bureau, was a member of the American Angus Association and Michigan Pork Producers as well as serving on the Bishop Airport Board of Appeals. John was a shareholder and founding member of Michigan Biodiesel and MBD Rescue. His proudest memories were his wife, Donna of 53 years, watching and guiding his grandsons, Tyler and Kyle as they helped grow and expand the family farm and of course, share in the Jelinek love of Oliver Tractors.

John is survived by his son, Phillip (Tracy) Jelinek; grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Jelinek; brother, Michigan State Senator Ron (Dee) Jelinek of Three Oaks, MI; great uncle, Ernie Jelinek; sister-in-law, Nancy Hale of Alabama; nephews, Kristopher (Sharon) Caverly of Lake City, MI, Lee (Mandy) Hale; nieces, Jill (Jesse) Glossinger, Pam Bauer of Florida, Amy Ford of Alabama; former student and “adopted” son, Jim Boy (Carol) Hardman of Goodrich; loving cousins, Nancy (late, Jim) Riemann, Jim (Teddie) Jelinek, Tom (Marilyn) Jelinek and Amy (Bob) Grey; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his nephew, David Bauer of Lake Fenton.
