PHILLIPS, MICHAEL DEAN – Of Flushing, age 73, died Friday, June 2, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, Father Tom Firestone officiating.
Memorial visitation 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Visitation 10 a.m. Friday at church until the time of the Mass.
Those desiring to do so may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, St. John Vianney Catholic School, Flint, or charity of one’s choice.
Michael was born in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of John and Odelia Phillips.
Michael was graduated from Hemlock High School in Hemlock, Michigan in 1967 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in sociology at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He earned his Master’s Degree in social work at the University of Wisconsin in 1975.
Michael worked for 40-plus years as a social worker, primarily working with renal patients on the dialysis unit at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, MI, and later at DaVita Dialysis Corporation in Flint, MI, after retirement from Hurley.
Michael and Margo were married in August of 1970 and spent 52 years together.
He dearly loved his sons, granddaughters and family.
He cherished his close friendships. He loved to travel (and equally loved to return home!) and also enjoyed photography.
Surviving are wife, Margo;
son, Aidan and fiancee’ Yvonne Lock, and son Ian;
3 granddaughters;
1 great-grandson;
brother, John Phillips, Jr.;
many nieces and nephews;
dear friends who were close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Odelia Phillips; sister-in-law, Susan Phillips and grand-nephew, Dakota Phillips.
