Sharon Luella Slater, born on the 27th day of November 1944, in the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan, was called home by the Lord on the 17th of August, 2023, in the tranquil town of Vassar, Michigan. Her departure from this earthly plane is a significant loss to those who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing that she now rests in the loving arms of our Savior.
A woman of faith, intelligence, and courage, Sharon was a beacon of light in the lives of many. She was a devoted member of the Otisville Church of Christ, where she regularly shared the Word and her wisdom with everyone around her. A fervent Detroit Tigers fan, she would cheer them on with unwavering enthusiasm and zeal. Sharon was a woman of many talents, including holding a pilot's license and being an accomplished quilter. She was a proud member of the Quilters Guild, where she created beautiful quilts that were not just warm coverings but works of art that reflected her love and care.
The heart of Sharon was always drawn to her family, who she loved more than words can express. She leaves behind her children, Judy Legue, Neil Slater, Connie (Chrisse) Esckelson, and Michael (Samantha) Slater; her brother, Richard (Kathey) Knoll; and her precious grandchildren: Heather (Frank) Knickerbocker, Dillon (Catherine) Legue, Aimee Slater, Chelsay Osborn, Richard (Ashley) Osborn, Robert (Courtney) Osborn, Kristin (Victor) Wheeler, Jasper Slater, Quinn Slater, Fenix Slater, and great-grandchildren: Zoey, Aden, Ayden, Johney, Victor, Luella, Emma, and Violet. Her parents, Alex and Luella Knoll, her brother Leo, sister Judy, and beloved granddaughter Amber Legue, preceded her in joining the Lord's heavenly kingdom.
Sharon was a woman who cherished the journey of life, embracing every opportunity to explore and learn. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her passion for travel and her daring decision to earn a pilot's license. Rest in peace, dear Sharon. You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Now, a crown of righteousness is laid up for you, and we know that you are rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. Your memory will forever be cherished, and your love will continue to warm our hearts, just like your beautiful quilts.
