PEEL, Cornelius “Neil” – of Burton, MI, age 93, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at home under hospice care surrounded by family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Rd., Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Burial, with Military Honors, in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-8 PM Monday, February 20, 2017, 3-8 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed 6:30 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 followed by a Memorial Service, under the auspices of Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4090 at 7 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PLAV (Polish Legion of American Veterans).
Neil was born in Flint, MI on August 27, 1923, son of the late Cornelius and Susie (Norton) Peel. He married Helen Carol on September 28, 1946 in Flint, MI and she preceded him in death on May 10, 2016. Neil proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He was employed as a supervisor with AC Spark Plug, retiring in 1980. Neil was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, PLAV, Knights of Columbus, Dave Noye Bowling League and the Flushing VFW Post #5666. He was inducted into the Flint Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 for his accomplishments in basketball. Until the age of 93, Neil was an avid bowler, bingo aficionado, poker player and he enjoyed going to casinos.
Neil is survived by 4 children, Patricia (John) Cashin, Thomas (Donna) Peel, Christine McDonald and Marilyn (Mark) Sutton; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Peel; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Peel and 7 siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Guardian Angel Hospice for their incredible care and support of Neil.
