Harriet Arvilla Shamel of Burton, age 88, died Friday January 16, 2026 at Henry Ford- Genesys Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday January 22, 2026 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison; Pastor Dennis Rouse officiating with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 am Thursday until time of services.
Harriet was born in Flint Michigan on May 24, 1937 the daughter of the late; Logan and Fern (Wilson) Stagg and has resided in the Burton- Genesee Township area her entire life. She attended Bentley Schools and was a graduate of the Class of 1955. She was joined in marriage to Don Shamel on June 8, 1962 and he preceded her in death on August 14, 2008. Harriet loved to spend time cross-stitching, and crocheting. Harriet also had a passion for her flower gardens where she spent many hours nurturing them.
Harriet leaves to cherish her memory daughters: Mona and husband Gary Church, and Tamara Yott. She also leaves her loving grandchildren: Carey Lee and Joyce, Doug Church and Jessica, Jenny Schalau and James , Corey Lee and Tiffani , and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are many extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law George and Grace Weible. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
