KOPEK, Dr. Nathan Charles, D.O. – of Burton, MI, age 49, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 surrounded by family, friends and colleagues. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Davison Missionary Church, 1481 North Gale Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Al Yerke officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Friday, December 15, 2023 and 12-6 PM Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 1-2 PM Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Davison Missionary Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison Missionary Church or to the family to be used toward a scholarship fund at Spring Arbor University, in Nathan’s honor. To commemorate Dr. Kopek's dedication to his profession, the family requests that all of Nathan's colleagues wear their white coat and/or stethoscope to the funeral service.
Nathan Charles Kopek was born in Howell, MI on November 5, 1974, son of the late George and Alice (Henry) Kopek. He married Sheila Spencer on June 9, 2001 in Hartland, MI. Nathan, known for his compassionate heart and unwavering dedication, graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Spring Arbor College and a medical degree from Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. He joined Ascension Genesys Hospital as Faculty in 2007, bringing not only expertise but also a warmth that touched everyone around him. His dedication to medicine was recognized with several Faculty of the Year awards, and he was a valued member of the Genesee Health Plan board of directors. Nathan's world revolved around his wife and his two active daughters, with whom he shared many cherished moments and adventures. His personal passions included tackling home improvement projects, indulging in auto repair, and delving into the depths of history. An outdoor enthusiast, he found joy in camping and embracing the beauty of nature. Professionally, he was deeply involved in the study and treatment of autoimmune disorders, infectious disease, and diabetes. He took great pride in mentoring his residents, guiding them to fulfill their aspirations and make a tangible difference in countless lives. A devout follower of Jesus Christ, and attendee of the Davison Missionary Church, Nathan's faith deeply influenced his life and actions in all that he did. His legacy is not only in his professional accomplishments but also in the warmth, guidance, and kindness he extended to everyone he met. Nathan's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and those fortunate enough to have been touched by his generous spirit.
Nate is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Kopek; two adoring daughters, Kylee Alice and Charlee Rose Kopek; two brothers, Travis Kopek and Ben (Lisa) Kopek; mother-in-law, Sandra Spencer; three brothers-in-law, Daniel Spencer, Wesley (Jessica) Hude and Travis Hude; three sisters-in-law, Sarah (Jason Schoonover) Dowis, Marlo (Jeff) Simon and Ellyn Hude; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Nate was preceded in death by Baby Kopek; father-in-law, Roy Spencer and mother-in-law, Alma Dowis.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Barbara Pawlaczyk, Dr. Reddy and sons, Dr. Christopher Szyarto, Dr. Justin Miller, Dr. Harmony Sierens and her amazing and compassionate staff on the inpatient Rehabilitation Floor of Ascension Genesys Hospital. You guys work miracles.
