RICHARDS, Richard James "Dick" - Age 72, of Swartz Creek, died January 22, 2016 at his residence. Services will be held 6 PM Wednesday, January 27 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 3-6 PM Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to Camp Kesem - MSU Chapter.
Richard was born October 18, 1943 in Lansing the son of Stanley and Gertrude (Thomas) Richards. He was a graduate of Northern Michigan University.
Mr. Richards was a teacher at Swartz Creek for 37 years. He was the Varsity Swim Coach at Swartz Creek for many years, and then also at Corunna. He coached several swimmers to State over his career. He was a positive and lasting influence on many swimmers lives over his coaching career.
He loved road trips, hunting, and love, love, loved his grandkids.
Surviving are: three children, Tim Richards (Julia Daniels) of Swartz Creek, Tristin (David) McCollum of Haslett, Trace (Scott) Zerka of Lakeview, and their mother, Sue Richards; grandchildren, Kyle Richards, Tyler Richards, Michael Zerka, Blake Zerka, Murphy McCollum, Erin McCollum; great-grandchildren, Mady and Sophie; sisters, Jill (Bill) Benn, Judy (Paul) Goerke; many loved nieces and nephews; special friends, Pat and Ray Beaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
