SAWYER, Vera L. – of Birch Run, age 96, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Covenant Health Care of Saginaw. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Ed Emmerling officiating. Burial in Flushing Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at 2PM. Contributions may be made to the American Heart, Lung or ALS Association, American Cancer Society or Autism Speaks.
Vera was born November 10, 1919 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Charles and Lillian (Turgeson) Wheeler. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1937. Vera married William H. Sawyer Jr., November 25, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1984. Vera enjoyed trips to the casino, BINGO, playing cards and fishing up north in the UP. She loved Diet Coke and was a very determined lady.
Surviving are: Sons: Kenneth (Clara) Sawyer of Florida, Charles Sawyer of Houghton Lake and Stephen (Kathleen) Sawyer of Birch Run. 9 grandchildren: Michelle, Kimberly, Kevin, Timothy, Thomas, Tanis, Terry, Deborah and Cheryl; 14 great-grandchildren; Several great-great grandchildren; Brother, William Glenn Wheeler. Vera was preceded in death by her son, William Sawyer; Daughters in Law, Sharon and Judy; Brother, Charles and sisters: June, Virginia and Betty.
