William Lee Bennett was born August 11, 1937 to Alton and Janett Bennett in Flint, Michigan. He attended Dye Elementary through high school and maintained lifelong friendships from there. After graduation, he promptly enlisted in the Marines and was assigned to 29 Palms at Camp Pendleton where he became a radio wire communications specialist and instructed recruits.
He returned to Flint and hired into General Motors and served over 32 years. After retirement, he attended Faith Tech International Bible School and completed missionary trips to India and Haiti.
He remained a faithful Christian and former member of Freedom Cross Ministries and current member of The Oasis Place Church in Swartz Creek.
He leaves behind his wife of 19 years Karen, sons Shad, Scott, and Bill Jr. (wife, Marie), stepson James Ledbetter, stepdaughter Jennifer (Darius) Fykes, grandsons Marcus and Tristian Bennett, and granddaughter Gabryella Bennett.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter Cory Bennett and brothers Robert and Don Bennett.
Graveside funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Rd. in Flint. Pastor Dan Rhanor to officiate. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday at Rossell Funeral Home prior to traveling in procession to the cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
