Black, H. James of Flushing, age 87, died Sunday, November 26, 2017, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle, celebrant. Entombment will follow the Mass. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on August 31, 1930, the son of Harry L. and Mary E. (Baikie) Black. He married Donna Streng on June 18, 1955, at St. Michael Catholic Church in New Lothrop. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by GM for over 30 years, many of those years as an Engineer for Buick Motor Division. Jim was an active member of St. Robert Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus. He loved golfing and was a member of Flushing Valley Country Club, serving as Past President. Jim was also an avid U of M sports fan.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna; children, Sheryl and husband Randy Peterson of Commerce, Susan and husband Rich Canada of Flushing, Jim and wife Lynne Black of Flushing, Karen and husband Doug Clark of Commerce, Bryan Black of Ashville, NC; grandchildren, Megan (Dave), Bryan (Candace), Joey, Kelsey, Blake, Kylie (Bob), Kyle, Kari, Bryce, Carli, Derek; great-granddaughter, Stella; sister, Peggy and husband Jim Stiles; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church or Reverence Hospice. A special thank you to Reverence Hospice for your care and compassion, especially his nurse, Staci.
