Baker, Susan Lou - Of Ionia (formerly of Flint) age 65, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan.
Cremation has taken place; a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Susan was born in Flint, Michigan, on December 5, 1960. She is the daughter of the late Bryan H and Joanne (Weir) Baker. Susan graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1979 and earned a degree in political science from the University of Michigan Flint. For most of her young life growing up in Flint she worked at the family pharmacy, Baker’s Drug Store. She held various jobs throughout her career, worked briefly as a model, and retired in 2025 from General Motors.
Susan married her current husband, Robert Blair Jones, on Halloween in 2020. She had a special love for Halloween and was inspired by her brother John who owned Seventh Heaven the Halloween Store in Flint. The Flint punk scene originally brought Sue and Blair together and they reunited forty years later. She was the Nancy to Blair’s Sid. She admired her husband’s creative musical talent and his poetry. She loved taking pictures of the nature and beauty that surrounded her home and these were quite good but pictures of people, she would manage to capture you at your absolute worst. She marched to the beat of her own drum and was a force to be reckoned with. She was one of a kind.
Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by her husband and children, Jennings Harper, Lennon and Shelby Smiley; grandchildren, Samuel Smiley, Gracie Bryan, Ira and Iris Harper; siblings, Bryan Baker (Kimberly), Frank Baker, Martha Baker, Judy Houle (Paul); many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, John Baker, Elizabeth Porte, and Debra Baker.
