Rye, David Loren, of Flushing, age 91, died Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Majestic Care in Flushing.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service honoring both David and Camilla will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
David was born in Flint, Michigan on January 26, 1935, the son of Elwyn Rye and Grace (Blythe) Philp. He married Camilla Schmidlin on February 9, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Flint, and they shared 69 years of marriage before her passing this February. David retired from General Motors as a forklift operator after 42.3 years. He was honored to be an Eagle Scout, which reflected his hard work and dedication. David found peace working in his yard, gardening and spending time on the golf course. Together with his wife, they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and going on cruises. He also had a special love for the schnauzers they raised over the years.
David is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Ted) Woods; grandchildren, Christopher (Mindy) Thompson, Michael (Jennah) Thompson, Parker (Marisa) Woods, Allison (Adam) VanHorn, Alexander (fiancée, Hannah) Rye; great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kase, Ivy, Henry, Johnathan; special niece, Sue Marshall and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Camilla; son, Bryan Rye; his parents and special aunt and uncle, Margie and Dick.
