In Loving Memory: Orlene Marie Peresta
October 8, 1948 – April 8, 2026
Orlene Marie Peresta (née Prettyman) + Hazen, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and pet-mom of Grand Blanc, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026 at the age of 77.
A Life Well-Lived
Orlene was born on October 8, 1948 in Flint, Michigan to Ila Cleo Lindsay (née Clapsaddle) + Prettyman and Orland “Rip” Emery Prettyman. Raised on a farm, she learned the value of hard work and grit at an early age. She was the second of five loving siblings and had a special bond with her grandparents, William and Effie Clapsaddle. In 1966 she traveled to Egypt with her grandfather and it ignited a sense of adventure which she carried through her life. Her keen skills in math and science led her to Ferris State where she graduated as a Pharmacist in 1977. As her career progressed she went from retail pharmacy to the hospital setting where she pursued interests in chemotherapy treatments and surgical needs of patients.
Orlene embraced motherhood with similar principles. She emphasized the importance of academic excellence and pursuit of higher education, something that was modeled by her own mother. She married her husband Jim Peresta in 1991 and they took the girls to all sorts of destinations across the country and abroad. Jim and Orlene had countless adventures as a couple as well: Alaska, Machu Picchu, European river cruises and Australia were some of the many destinations they enjoyed together. Over their nearly 35 year marriage they truly supported one another and shared hobbies like golf and making their famous Christmas nutrolls. Throughout the years they provided abundant love to their cherished pets and leaves behind her spunky mini-poodle Effie.
Orlene loved cooking and especially baking. She was always excited for a family gathering to share generational recipes with everyone. Her favorite pastime was developing her skills as a talented artist. In her early years of artistry, she enjoyed china painting and creating many beautiful cross-stitch works. In her later years she took pottery classes. She also had an avid interest in water color and created many beautiful pieces. Orlene & Jim's home is a vibrant personal gallery, reflecting her deep love for nature, animals, family and travel. She will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laughter, bursts of mischievousness and philanthropic spirit.
Family and Legacy
Orlene's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 35 years, James Peresta; her daughters, Rochelle Hazen and Allison Hazen (Phil Prahst); siblings Patti Schacher (Ron), Carol Schlager, Rock Lindsay (Lisa) and Anita Jursek (Stan); brother-in-law Jerome (Marlene) Peresta, sister-in-law Christine Peresta. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews Jeff, Brooke, Laura, Emily (Justin), Joseph, Tierney (Harrison), Clayton (Prie), Abby, and Madeline (Reed); and seven great-nieces and nephews.
Orlene was preceded in death by her mother, father and step-father.
