It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, Robert Francis Hocken. A proud graduate of Flint Tech High School (Class of 1951) and General Motors Institute (Class of 1956), he dedicated his life to his work as an engineer — a man who could fix just about anything, and usually did.
He married the love of his life, Eileen, on June 25th, 1954, and together they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Summers were best spent up at Pickerel Lake, where the days were filled with simple joys, quiet reflection, and time with family — the people he cherished most.
A lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, he stayed loyal through every high and low season, always hopeful for the next big win. But it wasn’t baseball or engineering that defined him most — it was the deep love he had for his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 71 years; Eileen (Symons) Hocken, children; Lauri(Ken) Shooltz, Lary(Dawn) Hocken, and Robin(Mike) Oudyn, grandchildren; Adam(Sarah) Shooltz, Ashlee Pimpas, Aaron Shooltz, Angela(Alton) Owen, Joshua(Cassandre) Hocken, Elijah Oudyn, Joanna Oudyn, and Ruth Oudyn, great grandchildren; Zeke Shooltz, Ellis Shooltz, Mallory Pimpas, Milo Pimpas, Camden Shooltz, Xander Owen, Damian Owen, Gavyn Hocken, Mya Hocken, Madyson Hocken, Marly Hocken, Griffyn Hocken, and Maybel Hocken, sister-in-law; Carol Long, nieces and nephews; Diane(Warren) Vyvyan, Jeffrey(Kathryn) Howe, Susan(Loren) Sohn, Thomas(Melissa) Roberts, David Long, Holly Boven, and Heidi Shock, and many great-nieces and nephews, friends, and loved ones.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; Harry and Amelia Hocken, sisters; Winifred Howe (Bruce), and Phyllis Roberts (Joseph), and his nephew; Mitchell Long.
A memorial visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home, located at 1480 E Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439 on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 10:00am-11:30am. A memorial service for Robert will begin at 11:30am following the visitation.
