Rene Garcia (Rudy) passed away on September 5th, 2025, at McLaren Hospital surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 71. Rene was born to Norberto Sr and Irma Garcia on April 12th, 1954, in Corpus Christi, TX. Rene dedicated his life to faith and family.
Rene married Martin Wright (Marty) on May 7th, 1984, in Flint, MI. Rene and Martin were happily married until Martin’s death in 2011.
Rene grew up participating in Boy Scouts and proudly earned his rank as an Eagle Scout. He later became a computer engineer designer for EDS, but his passion was pastoring in nursing homes and sharing the love of Christ with those around him.
Rene loved his fur babies like they were his children and cared so deeply for them.
He was known as the “cool uncle” because of his in-ground pool and ribbon candy he always had ready to share.
Rene’s love for music left people finding him playing the piano and singing hymns.
He spread the gospel wherever he went, was already to pray for any and everyone, and was a light for everyone he met.
Rene was preceded in death by his husband Martin, parents Norberto Sr and Irma and siblings Norberto Jr and Betolinda.
Rene is survived by his siblings, Rosa, Ricardo, Arnoldo, Roxanne and Joanne, many nieces and nephews, and his fur baby Mia.
In honor of Rene’s memory, a celebration of life will be held on September 11th, 2025, with an open viewing at 10am and service at 12pm at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Rene’s legacy will live on with all the people he shared the gospel with and his family. Rene will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
