It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lucy M. Gerhardt, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Lucy was born on April 6, 1942 in Flint, Michigan, and lived a life full of passion, generosity, and joy.
Lucy was a lifelong lover of books and could often be found lost in a good read. Her enthusiasm for reading and learning was unmatched, and she shared that love with everyone around her. She had an eye for history, collecting coins and money from various eras, each piece holding a story she was always eager to tell.
A unique and endearing aspect of Lucy's personality was her collection of Tootsie Roll banks, a charming hobby that brought her joy and nostalgia. Her inquisitive nature extended to many areas, and she could often be found participating in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) classes, maintaining her health and inspiring others with her dedication.
Beyond her personal pursuits, Lucy was a committed volunteer, always willing to lend a helping hand to her community. She found immense fulfillment in making "turtles" for Christmas, a sweet tradition that she shared with family and friends every holiday season. Her selflessness and kindness touched the hearts of many.
One of Lucy's greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play sports. Their victories, big or small, brought her pride and happiness. She was their biggest cheerleader, always in the stands, smiling and encouraging them with every game.
Lucy is survived by her children Larry (Cindy) Gerhardt and Sherry (Robbie) Privett; sister Linda Scott; grandchildren Morgan, Olivia, Griffin, McKenzie, Khris, Corina, and Gavin; and great-grandchild Logan.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Millicent (McGrath) Shaver and sisters Grace, Helen and Milli.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, curiosity, and generosity will live on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched.
The Gerhardt family would like to send their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Swank Home Assisted Living for their love and care to their mother.
A visitation for Lucy will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Reigle Funeral Home/Sunset Chapel - 5501 West Pierson Road, Flushing, MI 48433. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Reigle Funeral Home/Sunset Chapel with visitation one hour prior. Lucy will be laid to rest at Oregon Township Cemetery. |
