HASTEDT John A. - Of Grand Blanc, age 91, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 2PM Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Reverend Father Andrew A. Czajkowski officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI.
Visitation 5-8pm Saturday and 11am Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. There will be no visitation Sunday.
John was born in Birch Run, MI on February 10, 1923, the son of John and Ella (Westenfeld) Hastedt. On February 7, 1948, he married Mary H. Hess, the love of his life for 66 years. In 1978, after 30 years of service Mr. Hastedt retired from General Motors where he was a Safety Engineer. John was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II where he received the EAME Theater ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars. Once a year he got together with the surviving members of his Unit. John was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church as well as an active member of the Men’s Club of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Saint Joseph Hungarian Club. He loved being outside working in his garden and his yard. His family was everything in life to him.
Surviving are wife, Mary;
daughter, Joanne (Craig) Longstreet;
grandchildren, Craig John (Jennifer) Longstreet and Jeanne Corl;
great-grandchildren, Tyler, Allie and Jimmy.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Jeanne in 1971, 2 brothers, Alfred and Paul and sister, Hilda Jordan
