Les Nemeth

Born: 1/28/1944
Died: 5/1/2025
Age: 81
Community: Funeral service at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Otisville, MI

Les Nemeth, age 81 of Otisville, died Thursday, May 1, 2025 after a devastating stroke. His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday, May 5, 2025 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 450 Wilson Rd., Otisville, MI 48463. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 1-8PM at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home and on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 10AM until the time of his service at the church.

Les was born on January 28, 1944 in Flint, MI to John and Anna (Mleczewski) Nemeth.  He graduated from Kearsley High School in 1962, where he played football.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Newfoundland and Houma, LA.

During his service in Houma, he met his wife, Nileen Dupre, while moonlighting as a bartender.   They married on February 26, 1966 at Grace Lutheran Church in Houma.   After his honorable discharge, he and Nileen relocated to Flint, MI, where he was employed by AC Spark Plug.  He worked 33 years as an electrician and was a member of Local 651.

Les and Nileen moved to Otisville in 1976 and built a beautiful home on acreage for their two
daughters, Julie and Jeanna, where they planted 100s of pine trees, gardened and enjoyed the beauty of the woods.  Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren later enjoyed being outside with their grandpa catching frogs, riding ATVs and jumping in big leaf piles.

He loved the outdoors and had so many adventures in nature - canoeing with his brother John, fishing with his daughters, hunting with his brother, Dwight in the UP, kayaking throughout the country with friends, riding mules into the Grand Canyon with his grandsons, driving their travel trailer nationwide to just explore, and even sucker spearing with his grandsons on his great-grandparents’ farm in Caro.

Most importantly though were the Nemeth Family’s annual camping trips to Black Lake, for 52 years, where he shared the constellations on the dock with his grandkids, golfed (hunting for golf balls more than he golfed), swam, caught minnows, rode bikes and visited waterfalls.

His lasting legacy was his love for his family.  He was devoted to Nileen for 59 years, still holding her hand.  He doted on his daughters and told them to wear their seat belts even into their 50s, yet his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy.   He traveled with them to Alaska, met Aaron in Okinawa where he was stationed, followed Kyle on his travels with the United States Coast Guard, attended numerous sporting events as the loudest fan in the stands and ensured those Black Lake camping trips brought the entire family together every year.

He loved his family fiercely and they loved him the same in return. He had been a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Otisville since 1976 where he passed his faith onto his daughters and made lifelong friends.  He never met anyone with whom he couldn’t start a conversation.   His last contribution to this world was donating tissue to Gift of Life of Michigan.

Cherishing Les’ memory are: wife Nileen, daughters and sons-in-law Julie and Scott Griswold of Holly and Jeanna and Roy Roberts of Attica; six grandchildren: Kyle and Melissa Turcott of Babylon, NY; Brandon Turcott of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Aaron Turcott of Sterling Heights; Sam Griswold, Jacob Griswold and Morgan Griswold, all of Holly and great-grandchildren Alexis and Holly Turcott; sister-in-law, Judy Nemeth of Lachine, sister Laurie (Greg) Janowak of Gaylord, brother David Lamson of Prescott and sister-in-law Donna Lamson of Flint, godson Kerry Douglas-Dupre of Metairie, LA, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws in Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Nemeth and Dwight Lamson.
