Thomas Rose Sylvia – of Flint, age 101, died Wednesday, January 7, 201 at her cottage in Bay Port, Michigan.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Monday, January 12, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2500 N. Franklin, Flint, Father Francis Faraci officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Mary Church.
Visitation 4-8pm Saturday, and 1-8pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Rd.
A Rosary will be prayed at 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thomas will be at church from 10am Monday until the time of Mass.
Rose was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 26, 1219, daughter of John and Anna Kupres and was a resident of Flint since 1919.
On October 5, 1935, she married Joseph Thomas who preceded her in death, March 1985.
She has been a life-long member of St. Mary Church & an active member of numerous clubs & organizations, always willing to volunteer.
Rose catered various functions & hall rental parties at the Croatian Slovene Club for over 40 years well into her late eighties.
Rose loved to dance, especially the Charleston and sing. Music played a significant role throughout her entire life. She liked to travel & enjoyed bowling into her nineties. Rose had a real zest for life.
Her Croatian ethnicity was a major part of her life’s endeavors-in its music & language & she took pleasure in participating in Croatian events throughout the country.
She is survived by daughter, Roseanne, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews & her cherished pets, Corky, Matchka, & Sarafina.
She was also preceded in death by her sons, Charles and Robert, brothers: John, William and Joseph Kupres; and sisters: Barbara Granter & Frances Sharp.
