Wuelser, Marguerite Ann of Flushing and Traverse City, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 9, 2026 at Springvale Assisted Living & Memory Care. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026 at St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. Fr. Brian Lenz will officiate. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of the Mass.
Ann was born in Flint, Michigan on August 27, 1939, the daughter of John and Helen (Kalakay) Cole. She married Mel Wuelser on July 30, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2023.
Ann lived a full and giving life as a wife, mother, teacher, and friend.
Ann graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1957. She attended Eastern Michigan University and earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Elementary & Secondary Education from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1960 and 1961, and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan in 1963. She was an educator in the Flint Community Schools, Flushing Community Schools, and Mott Adult High School. Ann retired in 2004 after more than 40 years of teaching. Ann loved teaching students of all ages and abilities, encouraging them to read and inspiring them to love knowledge.
After retiring, Ann and Mel enjoyed their summers in Traverse City with their Port Traverse community.
Ann was an avid walker, loved nature, beautiful flowers, and bird watching. She spent many summer days working in the garden, enjoying coffee with friends on the patio, shopping the farmers market, and watching beautiful Traverse City sunsets. She loved music, theater, and dance. Ann was an avid reader with an extensive book collection. She read several newspapers each day.
Ann also loved traveling and wanted to see the world. She visited Europe several times and particularly loved Ireland. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed trips to Mackinaw Island with the group.
During her time as a teacher in Flushing, she assisted in taking several groups of high school students to Europe and Mexico.
Ann was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in Traverse City and several other professional teaching groups.
She was a devoted Detroit Red Wings fan attending several of their training and development camps in Traverse City.
She will be missed by her family, friends, and all the students she inspired. Ann and Mel had several close family friends who helped them in their retirement years.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Marci Wuelser and Melissa Wuelser. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Barbara Olivo.
