With grateful hearts and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Joseph Hayes Levels, a
devoted son, brother husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Uncle, minister, mentor, and
friend.

Joseph Hayes Levels was born on April 29, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky. As a young boy, he
moved with his family to Diamond, Ohio, where he was raised. He graduated from Southeast High
School and continued his education by taking classes at Youngstown State University.

Joseph built a career through hard work and dedication. He began working for Goodyear Tire &
Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, where he served as a supervisor. Later, he accepted a position
with Owens Corning Fiberglass relocating his family to South Bend, Indiana. He eventually became
a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch, a role that led him and his family to Grand Blanc/Flint,
Michigan.

While Joseph was accomplished professionally, his greatest calling was serving God. He attended
Mount Calvary Apostolic Church under Bishop Raymond L. Robinson where he accepted the Lord
into his life. He was called to ministry at a young age and shared the Gospel. He served as the
youth pastor at Bethel in Toledo, Ohio, under the leadership of Elder Cross. After relocating to Flint,
Michigan, he and his family became members of Bethlehem Temple, where he served under the
leadership of District Elder B.T. Scott and later Elder Jerry Lewis.

Joseph and his wife later moved to Austin Texas, where they attended Promise Land Church and
he served on the ministry staff. After some time of living in Austin he and his wife returned to Flint
Michigan, to help care for his parents-in-law. They reunited with their church family at Bethlehem
Temple, serving under the leadership of Suffragan Bishop Phillip Thompson. There, Joseph
faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, prayer leader, and member of the baptismal team.

Throughout his life, Joseph poured into people. Whether coaching, teaching, mentoring, sharing
wisdom from his life experiences, providing assistance to families in need, or praying with those
seeking hope, he left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. His kindness and unwavering
faith will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Deacon Joseph and Ida B Levels and his Parents-inlove Trustee Peathon and Cenobia Massey, son, Joseph “Chris” Levels; his sister, Toni Levels; his
brother, James “Jim” Levels; and many cherished family members and dear friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 35 years Betty Jo Levels, his sons, Randal L. Levels,
Stephen V.P. Levels (Sheree Levels), and Wendall J. Vaughn; and his daughter Johanna E.
Bransford (Bryan Bransford Sr.).

He is also survived by his brothers, Benjamin Levels (Theresa Levels), Kenneth Levels (Barbara
Levels), and Larry Levels (Vera Levels); his sister, Yalonda McClair; many beloved brothers- and
sisters-in-law; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; more than 70 nieces and nephews; and a
host of extended family members, friends, church family, and loved ones who will forever treasure
his memory.

Joseph lived a life of compassion, service, and love. His legacy is reflected not only in his family but
also in the lives he encouraged, uplifted, and inspired. Though he will be deeply missed, we rejoice
in knowing that he has entered into the presence of the Lord whom he faithfully served throughout
his life.

We would like to extend our gratitude to family and friends who helped Joseph and Betty Jo during
his illness. Many came to visit, prepared meals, did yard work and helped in a variety of ways. A
special thank you to Steve and Shirley Levels who opened their home to help care for Joseph "Dad"
daily. We cannot thank everyone enough for your selfless contributions.
