Jean was born in Flint, MI on May 13, 1940, daughter of the late Gerald James and Thelma Grace (Middleton) Peter. In her younger years, Jean was deeply involved in her community and family life. She proudly served as a Den Mother and a 4-H leader, and she was an avid equestrian who found joy and freedom on horseback. Jean was known for her competitive spirit, especially when it came to cards and games—she played to win and loved every minute of it. Jean found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: trips to the casino, playing the lottery, reading, crocheting, Bingo, and working on jigsaw puzzles. And above all else, she had a legendary love for chocolate chip cookies. She cherished the time spent vacationing with her sister, Marylou, creating memories filled with laughter and companionship. Most of all, Jean treasured her family. Time spent together meant everything to her, and she took special delight in giving gifts at Christmas, finding joy in making those she loved feel special and remembered.
Jean is survived by her 4 children, James (Karen) Stimson, Thomas Stimson, Dawne (Paul) LaBrecque and Mark (Melissa) Davidson; daughter-in-law, Carol Pyland; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marylou (Jerry) Gomer; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald James and Thelma Grace Peter; son, Daniel Stimson; granddaughter, Tonya Stimson; 4 siblings, Clare Peter, Cliff (Elenor) Peter, Jack (Eula) Peter and Delores (Ed) Miller.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Jean’s granddaughter, Alisha, for the many years of loving and devoted care she gave her grandmother. Because of Alisha’s selflessness and compassion, Jean’s life was richer and more comfortable, and she was able to remain with her family longer—something that meant the world to her.
The family also extends a sincere thank you to ALL of the staff at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility – Suncrest for the kindness, love, and exceptional care shown to our mother and grandmother. A special thank you as well to Mom’s caregivers and team at Heartland Hospice for their compassion, support, and comfort during this time.
