SMITHWICK, Theresa Alice - Of Flushing, age 61, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Road, Swartz Creek,

Dr. Gary R. Glanville officiating.

Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Clio, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Flint Concert Band, Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Swartz Creek United Methodist Church or Genesee County Humane Society.

Visitation 4-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10am Tuesday at church until the time of the service.

Theresa was born in Clio on January 3, 1957, the daughter of Edmund and Elizabeth (Cady) Goodman. She was a graduate of Clio High School, Class of 1975. Theresa went to Baker College and graduated in 1977 with an Associates of Science Degree and also attended Detroit College of Business. She has worked in the medical field for all her post college years and worked for many physicians, the latest being General Surgeons of Flint, Brain Shapiro, M.D. and OK Kang, M.D. On November 14, 1981, Theresa married Jerry O. Smithwick in Clio, MI. Theresa loved music, she was a member of many years of the Flint Concert Band, Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Genesee Valley Concert Band in which she played flute and piccolo. She is also a member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church in which she was in the orchestra and also served on the Finance Committee for 3 years. Theresa also loved gardening, and loved being around animals in which she owned 2 cats, Sandy and Bootie, and donated quite often to the Genesee County Humane Society. She was also an avid Detroit Tiger Fan attending a few games each year.

She leaves behind spouse, Jerry D. Smithwick;

sisters-in-law, Doris Cherry, Opal Wicks, Diane (Ernie) Harwood and brother-in-law, Michael (Sharon) Smithwick;

aunt Eleanor Streu;

cousins, Deborah (James) Phipps, Roger (Trish) Leland and Gary (Donna) Blanchard;

She also leaves behind good friends, Leslie Everson, Margaret Dyer and many, many friends in the band groups and outside of band and also church friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edmund and Elizabeth Goodman.

Theresa wants to be remembered as a Christian woman who loved the Lord, music of all kinds and animals and her Detroit Tigers.
