CHRISTOPHER, Wil A., age 87 of Fenton, formerly of Detroit, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday, October 9, 2023, and 9:30 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Sharp Funeral Homes - Fenton Chapel located at 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Sharp Funeral Homes - Fenton Chapel located at 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan followed by internment, with military honors, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at 12:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wil to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
Wilbur Allen Christopher was born on March 13, 1936 in Faxon, TN to the late James Verlie and Audra Lee (Wheatley) Christopher. He graduated from Detroit Cass Technical High School. He married Kathryn Fischer on January 23, 1958, in Angola, Indiana. Wil worked for the Detroit Police Department for 28 years beginning as a Patrol Officer in the 10th precinct then transitioning to the Tactical Mobile Unit (TMU) before retiring in 1990 as a Detective Sergeant with the Armed Robbery Division. He also served our country with the United States Army going from active duty to the Army Reserves and then active duty again until he retired in 1996 as a Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CW5). He was a member of The American Legion, The Retired Detroit Police & Fire Association, The Lieutenant & Sergeant Association, and The Warrant Officers Club. Wil also enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling, golf, and he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kathryn. Children, Rachel (Jim) Hines of Pinckney; Daniel (Debra) Christopher of Byron; Scott (Carol) Christopher of Pinckney; Kirsten (Angie) Voiles of Ann Arbor; and Darlena Williams of Orange, CA. Grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Crystal, Jonathan, Skylar, Logan, Carlee, Jackson, MacKenzie, Axl, Jeni, and Carrie. Sister, Judy Curtis of Big Sandy, TN. Wil is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Mr. Christopher was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wilbur Allen Christopher, Jr.; brother, Rodney Christopher; Sisters, Ann Sterling and Doris Denham.
