Willis "Bill" Chaffee passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Bill was born to Edith (Grinnell) and Donald Chaffee on May 23, 1935 in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. Bill worked for General Motors (Parts Division) for 30 years in Plant Security.
After retirement, Bill and his beautiful wife of 68 years, Shirley, traveled the United States in their motorhome, and visited 48 out of 50 states. They had many wonderful adventures and made lifelong friends in their travels.
Bill had a big personality. He loved meeting people and telling stories. He enjoyed many hobbies: traveling, photography, painting and drawing, puzzling and woodworking. He could fix almost anything. But his greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children: Cheryl (Kevin) Bemis, Michele (Walt) Jones, Mark (Ruth) and Jill (Tony) Bennett; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who will all miss him dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Edith Chaffee, his sisters Joyce (Pullum) and Carol (O’Neill) and his brother Robert.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25 from 5-8 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc on Friday, September 26 at 10 a.m. Bill will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at 2 p.m. Friday |
