SMITH, Daniel C. – of Genesee Township, age 59, passed away suddenly on August 24, 2026. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 1 – 5 PM at Captain’s Quarters, 6011 E. Atherton Rd., Burton, MI 48519. The family request that you honor Dan by wearing Michigan State, racing, or camouflage attire to the gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you print pictures of Dan and bring them with you to the Celebration of Life Gathering.
Daniel Clarkston Smith was born in Flint on September 10, 1966, the son of the late Milton and Sharon (Allen) Smith. He graduated from Kearsley High School in 1984 and went on to build a career as a skilled mechanic at Atherton Road Sales & Service.
Dan was happiest when he was outdoors, especially when hunting or fishing. He had a special love for animals, with dogs holding a particularly special place in his heart. Known for his kind and generous nature, Dan was always willing to lend a helping hand. He often did work for others simply because he could, never expecting or accepting payment in return. His generosity, quiet kindness, and willingness to help those around him were a true reflection of the good heart he carried throughout his life.
Dan is survived by his loving daughter, Katie (Cody) Charbeneau; sister, Debra (Dwight) Billings; and many many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Sharon Smith.
