Leonard “Joe” M. Okoneski
Age 72 of Chesaning passed away March 25, 2015.
A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel. Burial will take place at Holly National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 to 8:00pm.
Joe was born on November 25, 1942 to Leonard and Hazel (Burson) Okoniewski in Flint, Michigan. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He married his fourth grade sweetheart, June Trarop on March 30, 1968 in Flint.
Joe retired from General Motors in 1992 after 32 years of service. He was an avid golfer, and he was a member of the American Legion Post 212. He also served as Supervisor for Game Day Operations at the Big House for U of M football for 33 years. Go Blue!
Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, June; his children, Joseph (Laurie) Okoneski, Christina (Sal) Ausiello, Jeffrey Okoneski, Sabrina Goschka, and Dana (Jeffery) Polzin; his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Danette Escue; and his brother-in-law, Bill (Sherry) Trarop.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Judy Okoniewski, his brother-in-law, Jimmy Trarop, and his sister-in-law, Janet (James) Raby.
