Helen Smith, age 94, of Lapeer, passed away, Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
Helen Lucille Wheeler was born on January 4, 1921 in Imlay City, Michigan. She was the daughter of Edgar and Hattie Wheeler. Helen grew up in Imlay City. Helen graduated from Lapeer High School with the Class of 1938.
She was employed with the Lapeer Community Schools; retiring from the Mayfield Schools. Helen and her husband Harold owned an operated Haug's Market for 21 years in downtown Lapeer until 1973.
Her passion was the Missions of the Church of the Nazarene in Imlay City where she was a pianist and organist for several years.
Helen is survived by her daughters: Carol Boom of Lapeer and Judith (Dennis) Schneider of Goodyear, AZ.
Sons: Larry (Marty) Smith of Lapeer, Roger "Jay" (Patricia) Smith of Lapeer and Lynford (Loretta) Smith of Ionia.
13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Edgar and Hattie, sister: Marjorie Wheeler, brothers: Irvine Wheeler, Maurice Wheeler, Neil Wheeler, Lester Wheeler and Nelson Wheeler.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Imlay City Church of the Nazarene, 404 N. Almont Ave., Imlay City. Pastors Jeremy Gomas and James Mellish will officiate.. Burial will follow at the Imlay Township Cemetery.
The family will be available for visiting from 2-5 & 6 -8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City.
